Can you believe the beauty, the depth, the gloss of this fig!  No, this picture is not edited!  This is a beautiful, Califorian, candy strip fig!  I am a huge advocate and supporter of buying locally.  However, I have not found a local fig grower and it’s fig season! They are my weakness! I’m thankful to Ashland, Oregon for their abundance of fresh figs and the joy of picking them off the trees and eating them right there!  Yeah for figs!

Why are figs so great????  I’ll tell you!

*Figs contain one of the highest concentrations of calcium of any food!

*The tiny edible seeds are packed with nutrients and help draw out and dissolve waste, parasites, and mucus in the intestines….. aka laxative!

*Out of all dried foods, dried figs are the most alkaline and mineral-rich.

*Figs contain vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium, potassium and chlorine.

  1. Who would have thought that deeply about a fig. Actually, it looks luscious and definitely has wonderful benefits. Soooooooooooo will there be some dishes with figs??

  2. You forgot to mention the other, Greek Goddess related benefit of figs…
    What wonderful info on one of my favorites, high season for them here in the NW now, thinking of you asI enjoy one, a dash of cinnamon on top and some honey, wowwie!
